Hi Everyone, this information and pictures were long overdue for the blog, but I will still post it.

As Head of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Special Branch, I hosted an end of year function to award our officers and civilian staff in a real special way. There were various categories such as for officers with under 3 years service, 4-10 years of service, 11-15 years of service, 16 years and over.

There were also those who were awarded for their commitment and dedication, whilst others were awarded for an outstanding performance for the year. Here are some pictures. I sought assistance from some of our retired officers to do some of the presentations.

A Brand New Year

A special Greetings go out to all the members of Region 17. This is a brand new year and I wish to take this opportunity to extend to all extremely good health and an abundance of God's blessings for this 2012. 2011 is behind us and we now have an oppprtunity to correct, alter or change a situation that was to be dealt with since 2011. Nevertheless, let us open ourselves to new challenges, challenges that can inspire someone, challenges that can bring about growth and development. As we continue in this vocation of policing, we must remember that it is a special calling upon our lives and as a result we do have a duty of care to the members of our communities and the public in general.

Let us conduct ourselves in a professional manner despite who or what we may encounter. Let our integrity, truthfulness and honesty remain integral in our lives as we dispense our duties and responsibilities. As we continue to grapple with serious crime in the region, particularly in some parts of Latin America and in my own country Trinidad and Tobago, let us not despair, but let our strategies encompass solutions to the issues of social problems which plague the society.

Through it all remember to keep in touch with the one who knows and sees all things. Be blessed. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

LATIN AMERICA

Just to let you know that I have made contact with Beatriz Gonzalez, a Mexican Police Liaison Officer working in Guatemala. Beatriz attended the Lexington Conference. She is fluent in a few languages and we will be working together to spread information about the IAWP in Latin America.

Will let you know about this.

Curacao Conference

The Curacao conference has ended but it was a historic event for the IAWP since many of the participants stated that they had never heard about the IAWP. Prior to our prescence there, there was only one member of the IAWP in Curacao, Casandra Martha and one in the neighbouring island of Aruba. But there were none in St. Maarten, Bonaire, Saba or St. Eustateus. These are all still islands with a heritage from Holland, but their history is rich as they speak a language call papaiemento, a combination of English, dutch, french, spanish and portuguese. Yes, strange but truth.

The IAWP outreach programme was a success as 22 women became members of the IAWP. I met a few female pioneers in law enforcement from those islands and their stories were quite interesting as to how they began their law enforcement career.

The Prime Minister of Curacao addressed the participants in both papiemento and English Language, following the street parade.

Look out for more and some pictures.
